Entry Checklist
- Valid passport with at least six months validity
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate
Health & Vaccinations
- Vaccinations: Yellow fever vaccination is required. Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Meningitis are recommended.
- Healthcare: Medical facilities are extremely limited, especially outside of Kinshasa. Serious medical conditions will require evacuation. Travel insurance is essential.
- Travel insurance is highly recommended.

- Crime: High risk of violent crime, including armed robbery, carjacking, and kidnapping. Exercise extreme caution.
- Areas to Avoid: Avoid all non-essential travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo due to armed conflict and high crime rates.

Local Laws & Etiquette
- Important Laws: Drug offenses carry severe penalties. Photography of military installations and government buildings is prohibited.
- Cultural Etiquette: Greetings are important. It is customary to shake hands. Dress modestly, especially outside of major cities.
Money & Currency
- Currency: Congolese Franc (CDF). US Dollar (USD) is also widely accepted.
- Exchange Info: US dollars are widely used for transactions. Currency can be exchanged at banks and authorized bureaux de change.
- Typical Costs: The DRC is a very inexpensive country. A meal at a local restaurant can cost around $3-7 USD.
- Payment Methods: Cash (USD or CDF) is the most common form of payment. Credit cards are rarely accepted.
Transportation
- Getting Around: Taxis and motorcycle taxis are available in major cities. Road conditions are poor and travel outside of major towns can be dangerous.
- Driving Requirements: An International Driving Permit is required. Driving at night is not recommended.

- Languages: French, Kikongo, Lingala, Swahili, Tshiluba
- Internet & Mobile: Mobile phone coverage is limited outside of major towns. Internet access is available in hotels and internet cafes.
